Welcome to My Traveling World Light Bee-con!

“The rose has but a summer reign, the daisy never dies” – James Montgomery

MOVED BY MOM-Why This Blog Exists

The idea for this travel blog has been a long time coming with cycles of courage in the completion. It was back in 2009 when my friend Miguel originally designed the logo and the seed of my travel blog was born. Little did I know how much significance the bee (Hebrew for Deborah) and the daisy on my logo would have. On Nov. 14th, 2013 my mother, Daisy, made her transition and that was The Day That Changed Everything, providing the courage and motivation to move on my dreams.

THE JOURNEY BEE-GINS

On January 14th, 2014, I launched a 10-Month Manifest Your Desires Campaign. My mission was to encourage, inspire and support others in manifesting their desires by blogging about my 10-month commitment to manifest my desires in honor of my mother. While bestselling author Elizabeth Gilbert , “Ate, Prayed, and Loved” her way through Italy, India and Indonesia, I set out to “Travel Write, Fundraise and Book Publish” my way through those 10 months. I also began the Pushing Daisy Drive (Driven by Miss Daisy’s Daughter) which is an on-going, long-term vision to build an Eco-friendly home and health education center in Antigua, West Indies in honor of my mother’s legacy of service.

From Mother’s Day to Her Earthday: A Four Month Countdown

Fast Forward to 2017. Although I managed to consistently blog until the end of the 10-Month Campaign on Nov. 14th, 2014, for over 1 1/2 years, this blog has been mostly dormant. This year calls for a new cycle of courage in my blogging, fundraising and book publishing goals. Given the current social climate, I felt compelled to give myself a shorter time frame with a more courageous vision:

  • May 26th-New Moon, Kick-off a consistent blogging schedule that includes travel stories, interviews, guest posts and podcasts. Visit the Posts Page to see the range of weekly posts planned.
  • July 26th-Mayan New Year, Raise $2,200 to attend CalEarth Institute’s SuperAdobe Training & Midwest Permaculture Certification as part of Phase One of the Pushing Daisy Drive.
  • Sept. 26thDaisy’s Earthday, Complete the rough draft for my book Prayers of a Virgin: 52 Weeks of Poetic Inspiration and Personal Planetary Guidance with the Destiny Cards and “blook” the first 3 Chapters as part of a pre-crowdfunding campaign to publish the printed book by Nov. 14th, 2017.

Thank you for bee-ing here. Also, if you’d like to read past posts from the 10-Month Campaign, go to Categories in the side bar and search for “Manifest Monday” and “Pushing Daisy Tuesday Tribute” in the  drop down menu . Enjoy!

Shots of Bee-U-Tiful Spots- Fyah Burning

Shots of Bee-U-Tiful Spots is one of two fundraising series that promotes photographers and youth programs on St. Croix, US Virgin Islands. When you Pay What You Want (PWYW) for the featured photo donated by the featured photographer, you’ll also be contributing to the Pushing Daisy Drive,  and other youth programs.

The “Shots of Bee-U-Tiful Spots” Series features the exceptional photography of Sneferu Hotep, founder of Egiptian Church of Karast A’ashuq Youth & Prison Ministries. His eye for the perfect shot at the perfect spot is definitely hot (lol!).

History of Fyah Burning on St. Croix

Whether it be the historic “Fireburn” Labor Rebellion on Oct. 1, 1878 or the fire burning at a Rasta ceremony with Nyabinghi drumming and chanting, St. Croix is no stranger to fyah burning. This shot was taken at an African Liberation Day celebration. I’m sure my mother, the rebel and Zulu Queen Daisy would like this one!

Let the Reading Bee-gin

Whatca Bee Reading? is a monthly post on DeBorah “B’s” Travel Bug Blog  that allows me to share what I’m currently reading with my tribe. It also gives me the opportunity to showcase Bee Sting: Critiques That Help & Hurt every month. Enjoy!

Book Name/ Author:  Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates

What’s It About?

A National Book Award Winner, this entire book was written as a touching letter from a father to his 15 year old son sharing his experience growing up African-American in North America navigating his Black body through gang violence, racism, police brutality and the pursuit of happiness.

Why &/or Where’d You Get It?

I got it from a friend’s library, and to be honest, Toni Morrison’s quote, “This is required reading” is what got my attention.

What’s Your Percentage Point?

About 65% done

Whatcha Think So Far?

After warming up to his unique writing style, I was able to settle into and be touched by his poignant words and most timely message around the effects of police brutality. Through storytelling, he makes real the constant threat to Black bodies whether it be from the Boyz n the Hood or the Boys in Blue.

POV Monday Promo-Let the Survey Begin! (Pt. 1 of 9)

POV Monday Promo is a nine part series leading up to an Indiegogo book crowdfundraiser for, Prayers of a Virgin: 52 Weeks of Poetic Inspiration and Personal Planetary Guidance with the Destiny Cards. The promo’s goal is to build a buzz around the campaign, “blook” the first 3 Chapters by my mother’s Earthday on September 26th, and get the needed funds and feedback before publishing.

Let the Survey Bee-gin

I’d like to begin this nine part series with a survey to get your feedback on the book basics in order to create a better product more capable of reaching my audience.  If you complete the short survey, you’ll get a free copy of my e-book and a 45% discount on a Destiny Card Report with the coupon code given. But first, read the book summary below before you Take The Survey

Book Summary

Inspired by the death of my mother, POV is a 52 week inspirational guidebook and astrological calendar specific to your birthdate that helps you understand your life cycles to make better choices using an ancient astrological system coined the Destiny Cards by Robert Camp. This book will be accompanied by a .PDF formatted, 52 Week Report that reveals your personal daily life cycles using an ancient astrological system hidden in the ordinary deck of playing cards! This fascinating system that has been preserved throughout the ages by the Order of the Magi, is based on a mathematical formula that is NOT founded on divination alone like the more familiar tarot cards. With your accompanying report, you will be able to record your daily influences in the book and use it as a planning guide to make better choices.

Eric Pearl, healer and author of The Reconnection: Heal Others, Heal Yourself mentions the importance of having triggers in our lives to help us grow. Triggers are topics that bring up strong emotion. I like to use “trigger” words in my book titles that may bring up predetermined ideas in people’s mind in order for us to address them collectively.

“If you get down and you quarrel everyday, you’re saying prayers to the devils I say.” -Bob Marley

While the word virgin brings up different things for different people, I define virginity as a person who is owning unto themselves and not claimed by anyone. To me, true virginity has less to do with purity based on sex and more to do with ownership. We are all “claimed” by certain things whether they be good or bad (a nation, a person or a philosophy), and yet we are also “virgins” in other areas as well.

What we put our focus on is our prayer, and when we are “unclaimed and focused” in any area that is real power. This book will inspire you to reclaim aspects of yourself, and address the importance of the prayers of all virgins to create a vision for tomorrow…today.

Aishah Shahidah Simmons is Loving With Accountability

Every other week, DeBorah B’s Travel Bug Blog shines the Royal Jelly Sunday Spotlight on the many wonderful people and organizations in the world doing amazing and wonderful things. It’s obvious that after being fed the royal jelly of life, they have chosen to transform into the royalty that they “bee.”

Incest and rape survivor, Aishah Shahidah Simmons is the producer and director of the award-winning film, NO! The Rape Documentary and the force behind the #LoveWITHAccountability Movement that examines how accountability is a powerful and necessary form of love needed to address Child Sexual Abuse (CSA). I first met Aishah in 2010 at a Vipassana Meditation course in India. She was documenting the historic gathering of African and African-Diasporic Vipassana meditators invited to meet the late S.N. Goenka, foremost lay teacher responsible for bringing Vipassana meditation to the West.

Fast Forward to 2017
Over seven years later, I ran into Aishah again while serving a 30/45-Day Vipassana meditation course. After completing her 30-Day course, I had the opportunity to interview Aishah and find out just how synchronistic her 30-day sit was to her father’s release from prison over 45 years ago!

Her Interview with Me

Her Powerful Mother & Daughter Interview

The Spin podcast host, Esther Armah, conducts a powerful  interview with Aishah and her mom, Dr. Simmons, as they share their touching story about the effects of childhood sexual abuse. Listen all the way to the end to at least 45 minutes, and I GUARANTEE you won’t bee the same!

Her Forward Book Contribution

Aishah Shahidah Simmons writes the Introduction to this insightful collection of stories written by over forty artists, activists, mothers, writers, and students who share the common bond of being survivors of sexual violence.

My 2020 Vision- POV Monday Promo Push Off

“Where the Love to Travel, Fundraise and Write Unite!”

At DeBorah B’s Travel Bug Blog, I not only promote fundraisers, share travel stories, and showcase community events, artists and activists, l also use this platform for promoting upcoming publications.

My 2020 Vision

Since I’ve worn glasses since I was 5 yrs. old, I’m definitely not talking about my eyesight! My vision is to publish six books, sharing powerful practices and principles for conscious co-creation by the year 2020.

What IS Conscious Co-Creation & Why Is It Important?

For better or worse, you are constantly co-creating your life circumstances with the Creator of All There Is in your every thought, word and action. Yet, what if you could do so more consciously? What would it be like if you knew, just like you know when you’re thirsty, how to tap into Creator Source to co-create the mental, emotional and financial breakthroughs you deserve? Now imagine if we ALL could consciously co-create the lives we desire on every level?

That would completely eradicate the need to complain or get caught up in power struggles. Yet, because of a loss of faith and a lack of trust from life experiences, it feels futile to fully commit to co-creating our desires. Facing the shadow of my greatest wounds involving racism, sexism and ageism has allowed me to experienced first-hand the power of conscious co-creation.  And over time, these same shadow experiences have transformed into my greatest gifts that I’m committed to sharing now.

So far, I’ve finished one of the six books, Afraid of Our Own Shadow: A Manifesto and Guide for Conscious Co-Creation. As a 40 pg. e-book, AOOOS can be considered the practical, hands-on, how-to part to It’s All G.O.D: A Conscious Creator’s Guide to Healing the Effects of White Supremacy. Part memoir, part paradigm shifting guidebook, IAG promises to be my most thought provoking book to date. In today’s social climate, I had no idea how significant the book title would be back in 2012, when I first kicked off the IAG 9 Month Countdown campaign that I have since put on hold after my mother died to focus on first publishing Prayers of a Virgin: 52 Weeks of Poetic Inspiration and Personal Planetary Guidance with the Destiny Cards. To learn more about the other books envisioned visit Who I Am Communications.

POV Monday Promo: A Nine Part Series Countdown

Through a series of 9 weekly posts leading up to an Indiegogo Crowdfundraiser, the goal of  POV Monday Promo is to build a buzz around the book and “blook” the first 3 Chapters by my mother’s Earthday on September 26th. The final goal is to raise the funds on Indiegogo to edit, format and publish the printed book by Nov. 14th, 2017. The 9-part series officially starts on June 12th.

Here are three ways you can contribute:

  • Give Feedback: Leading up to the Indiegogo Campaign, I’ll be “blooking” the first 3 Chapters of POV and generating polls, surveys and even contests for the needed feedback before the publishing stage. Indiegogo also has a feature where I can share the draft crowdfunding campaign page with my tribe before it goes live to gain your input and suggestion.
  • Share the Love: Whether you share my posts, podcasts, Pinterest pics or Youtube videos, the more the book campaign is buzzing around, the better it bee-comes.
  • Purchase & Promote: Indiegogo’s referral incentive program makes it possible for me to track the people my fans refer to the campaign and that allows me to give perks to tribe members that are most active!

Thanks for your time! Stay tuned for the POV Monday Promo Schedule on June 12th!

When you Pay What You Want (PWYW) for the featured photo donated by the featured photographer, you’ll also be contributing to the Pushing Daisy Drive,  and other youth programs.

The “Bug Shot of the Week” Series features the exceptional photography of Ras Lumumba Corriette of Ay Ay Eco Hike & Tours. His love for nature shines through in every one of his shots of insects, flowers and nature in general.

Her-story of the Zulu Queen Daisy

In May of 2015, long time friend Ras Lumumba, sent me an email entitled Zulu Queen Daisy in my Flower Garden. In the first sentence he writes, “Miss Daisy, your mother, ‘The Zulu Queen’ has chosen to resurrected in my garden. In fact, she looks so Majestic in her regal garments…” With such a powerful photo and statement, there was no way I could put “Week” after this Bug Shot. Enjoy!

Giving Voice to “A Quiet Desperation”

Cross Pollination Pages is a bi-weekly series featuring guest posts and articles written by other light beacons and hopes to connect ideas and people together in ways that wouldn’t have been possible.

Today’s episode features Marita Golden, an award-winning novelist and nonfiction writer. I was inspired to share her email message below, as my father made his transition in 2015 from Dementia. Enjoy and Share!

Dear DeBorah,

Because I know that you share my concern about the devastating impact of Alzheimer’s Disease on the African American community I am sending you an early copy of my Washington Post Magazine story “A Quiet Desperation” which investigates WHY African Americans are twice as likely as whites to develop Alzheimer’s and profiles a family impacted by the disease. The article will be published Sunday, June 4th.
Please read and share with your friends and family. We need to get a meaningful conversation started! Click here to read the article. Thank you in advance!
